The Artistic Director

Alessandra Silvia De Simone, theatrical director, screenwriter, costume and theatrical mask designer and painter. Born in Milan. Loves drawing and art since she was a child. She studied in Italy, United States and England. Graduated in “Conservation of Cultural Heritage” with Experimental Thesis in History and Technique of Photography. At the age of 23 she specialized in Restoration of Mural Paintings and for years she collaborated with restoration companies in churches and historic buildings. After a Master in Marketing for Arts & Culture Sector, she won the First Place as “Best Idea of Artistic-Cultural Enterprise”. She started the collaboration with the Education Department of the British Museum of London, for the theatres of the museum: BP and Stevenson. She collaborates with international museums such as V&A, the National Gallery and the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art Museum. In 2011 she wrote the screenplay for the show “La Danza dei Fili. Since 2012 she has been creating Living Art Installations in Museums and Theatres. “La Danza dei Fili” was promoted and presented at the UNESCO Palace in Paris one month after the Bataclan terrorist attacks for the message of Equality and Peace and Solidarity that spreading around the world.

 

The main stages of her artistic journey in detail:

 

She has been drawing since the early years of her childhood. At the age of ten she took part in the first school drawing competition entitled: “Ercolano Pulita”. At the age of twenty she entered the School of Restoration of Wall Paintings, Decorations and Stuccoes by – CFP – Cremona / Italy.
She specialized in Restoration of Frescoes with a Thesis entitled: “Colours in the Middle Ages”. Subsequently she graduated in Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the University of Letters of Naples with Experimental Thesis in History and Technique of Photography entitled: “The Photography of Art: Works on Wood and Mural Paintings”. Since 1999 she has been writing Educational Museum Projects in order to bring young people closer to the value of the Italian and International artistic heritage. She holds a Master in Marketing in the Arts & Culture Sector and won First Place as the Best Artistic Enterprise for National Project/ Tuscany Region/Italy. From 2000 she began to collaborate with International Museums for Projects that bring new generations closer to the value of Italian and International art. She spent four years in Education Department of the British Museum in London and collaborated with the two theatres of the museum: BP and Stevenson Theatre. In 2011 she wrote the first screenplay for the traveling show “La Danza dei Fili” which was presented and promoted at the UNESCO Palace in Paris in December 2015. In the meantime, she spread it in various corners of the world: Portovenere / SP, Italy in 2012 , Florence, San Terenzo / SP and Forte dei Marmi / LU 2013, Portovenere (SP) 2014, Civic Theatre (SP) 2015, St. Petersburg / Russia 2015, Vancouver British Columbia in 2016, Miami / FL, USA2016. On April 28, 2016, Alessandra brings the show to São Paulo / Brazil at the Teatro Castro Mendes with the involvement of eighty dancers selected locally. On July 10th, 2016, after the invitation by the President of DWC Mrs. Mona D’Amours, “La Danza dei Fili” inaugurated the Gala evening of the Dance World Cup in Montreal, Canada, the event sponsored by the Cirque du Soleil. In 2017 she arrived to Turin / Italy at the Teatro Concordia in Venaria Reale where eighty-five participants, including dancers, gymnasts, singers and a choir of white voices were involved. In 2018 collaborations began with art galleries. Alessandra exhibits canvases and masks for Lazzaro Gallery in Milan and Forte dei Marmi / Lu. From 2010 to 2019 she participated to art exhibitions between personal and collective. Between 2018 and 2019 she began to collaborate with the LAC Lugano / Switzerland. Meanwhile, her theatrical project is presented in the USA and in some Asian countries. In the same year “La Danza dei Fili” was presented to the Municipality of Milan / Italy. In 2019 Alessandra inaugurated with other artists, a Collective Exhibition entitled “Art and Ingenuity” for Arcadia Art Gallery in Milan (where it currently exhibits). The Gallery exhibits the artist’s recent paintings, masks and has created her own Living Art Installation on November 14, 2019 entitled: “The Eternal Dance between Life, Death and Love”. In 2020, the show “La Danza dei Fili” was nominated for an international award for the DWC in Montreal 2020. However, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic broke out and all the technical staff decided to suspend all activities. We’re looking forward to resume the show in near future.
